Holiday Transport – Travelling with kids

Having chosen your, destination, booked your flights and arranged your accommodation you might now be starting to consider what activities you will do and how will you get around doing them. You will also need to consider how you will travel from the airport with your family to your resort. Read this article to weigh up your travel options.

More often than not tour operators will offer packaged deals with airport transfers already included. This is great, it already solves the problem of how are you going to travel to your holiday resort with your kids and your luggage. Carrying around luggage and keeping an eye on kids within an unfamiliar environment can be overbearing at times. Simply arrive at the airport, pick up your luggage and be guided to the awaiting coach to take you onwards to your accommodation. As straightforward and convenient as this may be, this can also be problematic, especially if you have been on a long flight and are dealing with tired and restless children who are not prepared to wait for all the other holidaymakers booked on the coach to board the vehicle as well. You then have to detour to stop at every other holiday resort before you finally arrive at yours.

Some families might opt for a taxi which is probably one of the most convenient methods to travel from the airport. You don’t have to wait a long time, you don’t have to worry about directions, and you sit inside the back of the tax with your family and drive directly to your resort. Simple! What other option is easier than collecting your baggage and walking directly to the taxi rank? However this method can be a little costly and is only a short term solution. You still have to consider how you will travel around at your destination and taking a taxi each time you want to travel somewhere is going to eat into your travel budget.

Car hire would be an option that would solve the problem of getting from the airport which can also be used to get around and see the sights. In the long term car hire could actually work out saving you some money depending on the amount of driving you will do. With the family you will have to fork out for travel tickets for each family member and if you are a family of 5 this can soon add up. With car hire you pay only one time and can travel as much or as little as you want. It is also a convenient way to travel at a time and pace that suits you, allowing you to bypass the scheduled tours on offer.

Though coach tours can relieve the stress of navigating around, most holidaymakers have found tour buses to be overcrowded with no air conditioning and little ventilation, factors which do not bode well when travelling with youngsters. With driving your own vehicle you will also be able to head back to your resort when your kids start to feel tired and hungry and will not have to sit around waiting for the rest of the tour to finish.

With these factors in mind, having your own vehicle when travelling with your family does seem the best solution. However if your travel budget doesn’t allow you to hire a car make sure you do more research into the public transport system at your destination. It might be that you can get excellent prices on family travel tickets on the local transport system.
